Law & occupational safety
Is a risk assessment mandatory for home office work?
Yes. Under section 3(1) of the German Occupational Safety Act the employer must take the necessary safety measures and verify their effectiveness. This includes the risk assessment under section 5 ArbSchG. These duties also apply to workstations in private homes.
Safety measures include not just the questionnaire but also implementing necessary measures, instruction and verifying effectiveness. The assessment must fit the concrete workstation and tasks.
Where employees work from home or mobile, environmental conditions, screen work, work organisation and psychological strain should also be captured.
onyo's digital risk assessment supports companies with structured capture and documentation, recommendations for employees and the follow-up of identified deficiencies. It does not replace the employer's decision and implementation, but makes the process auditable.
