Home office as a service
Who is liable for damage to home office equipment?
With rented onyo equipment, onyo is the owner and the contact for damage. The equipment is covered by property insurance; onyo organises and covers repair or replacement – at no cost to the employer.
Damage should be reported to onyo promptly so that replacement or repair can be initiated quickly. A clear reporting path in the remote-work agreement ensures nobody works with damaged items for weeks.
Whether an employee must personally cover damage is a separate question: under German employee-liability principles it depends on the degree of fault – ordinary negligence can in principle lead to partial liability, intent to full liability. In practice, however, onyo settles damage to rented equipment directly, without burdening the employer or the employee.
Key points
