Accident insurance in the home office
Since 2021, paths within the home are covered by German statutory accident insurance during home office work.
Statutory accident insurance in the home office was aligned in 2021 (§ 8 (1) SGB VII). Work activities and paths within the home – e.g. to the bathroom or printer – are now insured.
Covered
- Work at the dedicated workplace
- Paths within the home for work-related activity
- Childcare-related paths (§ 8 (2) 2a SGB VII)
Not covered
Private cooking, breaks in the kitchen (case-by-case), private errands.
Practice
A clear separation of work and private space, a documented risk assessment, and ergonomic equipment reduce dispute risk.
