Desk sharing & office space
What is a clean desk policy?
A clean desk policy requires desks to be left free of personal and confidential material at the end of the day. This makes desk sharing easier and is a building block of data protection – on its own it is not a sufficient data-protection measure.
It only works with storage: enough personal lockers or pedestals, close by. Complement it with rules on screen locking, paper disposal and handling confidential documents.
Communicate the purpose: data protection and usability for colleagues – not control.
Key points
- Desk left clear and confidential-safe each day
- Sufficient personal storage is a prerequisite
- A building block of data protection – not the whole solution
